The nonprofit Illinois Art Station in Normal, IL provides children, youth, and their families -- from all neighborhoods and backgrounds -- with transformative, hands-on experiences in the visual arts.
Illinois Art Station (IAS) was founded in 2016 as an initiative of the College of Arts and Sciences at Illinois State University with the goal of providing children, youth, and their families—from all neighborhoods and backgrounds—with transformative, hands-on visual arts experiences facilitated by expert and in-training art educators. Community-wide programming began in 2018; and in the time since, IAS has served more than 10,000 local children and teens between ages 3 and 18 through classes, camps, and community events. In February 2020, IAS established itself as an independent, public nonprofit. In September 2021, IAS expanded into its permanent facility in Normal, a move that encourages the development of new onsite programming while continuing to support outreach to regional schools and community centers. IAS is open for Saturdays at the Station every Saturday from 10:00-2:00 for family-friendly drop in art making.
